WELLINGTON, Colo. – A driver was killed after hitting a fire engine north of Wellington on Interstate 25 Friday evening.
The crash was reported at mile marker 282 north of Wellington just after 8 p.m. by the Colorado Department of Transportation.
Wellington Fire officials said that while responding to an incident on I-25, one of their engines was struck by another vehicle going north at mile marker 283.
Just before 9 p.m., fire officials said the driver of the vehicle in that crash had died. The victim has not been identified.
I-25 was closed both directions at Owl Canyon Road (mile marker 282). There was no estimated time for the reopening of the highway.
No firefighters were injured in the crash.
