DENVER — The driver who is accused of fatally hitting a woman crossing the street at W. Colfax Avenue and Zenobia Street on Dec. 17 was formally charged Monday.
Denver District Attorney Beth McCann filed charges against 39-year-old Juan Sanchez in connection to the hit-and-run crash that killed 51-year-old Annette Conquering Bear of Denver as she was attempting to cross the street. He was charged with vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of a crash involving death.
The truck was located later that night. The woman's children pleaded for the person responsible for the crash to turn themselves in.
Sanchez was arrested by Black Hawk police in Gilpin County on Dec. 19, two days after the crash.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said Sanchez is in the U.S. illegally.
