HAYDEN, Colo. -- A 36-year-old man was injured during a police pursuit near the town of Hayden Wednesday morning.

The 14th Judicial District Critical Incident Team (CIT) is investigating the incident after a request from the Colorado State Patrol.

The incident began when the suspect failed to stop for a traffic infraction in Craig. The suspect took off, but a pursuit was not initiated by the Craig Police Department, according to a news release from the Colorado Bureau of Investigations.

Soon after, the suspect, driving a late model Honda at a high rate of speed, passed a CSP sergeant driving on Highway 40 in Hayden, and a pursuit was initiated, CBI said.

After about two miles, the sergeant initiated a tactical vehicle intervention maneuver to end the pursuit, which caused the suspect vehicle to hit an embankment, ejecting the driver, according to the CBI.

The man was transported to UCHealth University of Colorado Hospital where his condition is unknown.

Per standard CSP policy and procedure, the sergeant has been placed on administrative leave.
