LARIMER COUNTY, Colo. — A driver was arrested after fleeing at a high speed from authorities twice in a stolen car Monday morning.

Around 6:15 a.m. on Monday, deputies with the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2500 block of N. Overland Trail for a welfare check on a black 2019 Land Cruiser that had activated its SOS/Emergency Alarm.

When they arrived, the driver in the car attempted to strike a deputy who had stepped outside his vehicle, according to the sheriff's office. The driver then fled the scene.

Deputies pursued the driver and the vehicles reached speeds of 80 mph before authorities noticed the person was driving erratically and called off the pursuit at S. Taft Hill Road and Prospect Road.

Afterward, deputies found that the car had been stolen from a dealership in Fort Collins, but hadn’t been reported yet.

A few hours later, at 9:30 a.m., deputies received information about the same car parked along the 3900 block of Buena Vista Drive in Loveland.

Deputies requested help from the Loveland Police Department. When they arrived at the scene, a man got into the stolen car. Deputies tried to block the car with their patrol cars, but the driver rammed one patrol car and fled, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities once again pursued the car and reached 100 mph before losing sight of it. Shortly afterward, the car was found in the 2500 block of Carla Drive in Loveland. The driver had left on foot.

Authorities created a perimeter and used K-9s and a drone to find the suspect.

He was found in a backyard in the 2400 block of Dawn Court in Loveland just before 1 p.m. He was identified as Adam Dean Eckroat, 32, and was booked into the Larimer County Jail, according to the sheriff's office.

Eckroat was charged with two counts of attempted assault on a peace officer, two counts of vehicular eluding, two counts of second-degree criminal trespassing, criminal mischief, aggravated motor vehicle theft and an outstanding felony warrant from Fort Collins Police Services.

He had been arrested twice this year already: Once on Jan. 25 in Loveland for bond violation and possession of drug paraphernalia, and once on Feb. 18 in Larimer County for identification theft and bond violation.
