Littleton house fire spreads to nearby homes

LITTLETON, Colo. — Crews battling a house fire in Littleton Friday afternoon were "up against just about everything possible" as flames spread to nearby homes.

The fire started around 3:30 p.m. at a home in the 7900 block of South Bemis Circle in Littleton.

Littleton Fire crews arriving on scene encountered flames and smoke. The home’s occupants made it out safely, and no injuries were reported.

Denver7 spoke exclusively to Good Samaritan Jennifer Knight, who was driving home from work and heard an explosion. A cut natural gas line had caught fire and was spewing flames.

"We went up to the front door, got the door open and the dog came outside," Knight said.

The former EMT then moved neighbors away from the dangerous situation.

"We started banging on doors and getting everyone out," she said.

Soon after, flames from the first house spread to a neighboring home as fire crews moved quickly to gain control. But an hour later, a third home, several blocks from the original call, caught fire.

AIRTRACKER7 caught video of a man trying to douse the flames on the third home with a garden hose. He was quickly joined by firefighters several houses down. South Metro Fire says an ember from the first two fires had floated onto that roof and caused that third fire.

Littleton Fire tweeted that the two home sustained significant damage, the extent of which is unknown.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Denver7's Jason Gruenauer contributed to this report.
