SUMMIT COUNTY, Colo. – A dog is recovering from surgery after being rescued from a Summit County trail because of medical issues.

The dog, a 9-year-old named Roscoe, was on a hike with his owner on the Ute Pass Trail Sunday afternoon when he started having a medical emergency around 3:30 p.m.

Ten members from the Summit County Rescue Group responded and carried Roscoe out on a stretcher. Officials said the rescue operation took about three hours.

Following his rescue, Roscoe was taken to a veterinarian in Wheat Ridge, where he underwent surgery to remove his spleen and untwist his stomach. Rescuers said Roscoe was recovering and was expected to be reunited with his owner sometime Wednesday.

Officials said this was their second dog rescue in as many weeks, both with happy endings.
