DENVER – Several DMV services will be unavailable for the first few days of August while the state works to replace the computer system that handles titles and registration.

All Colorado title and registration services will be unavailable at DMV offices from Aug. 1 to Aug. 5. but registration renewals will still be available online in participating counties.

Online and in-office driver license services will be unavailable from Aug. 2 to Aug. 3 and all state driver license offices will be closed.

The service disruptions will allow the DMV to replace its CSTARS system, installed in the 1980s, with a newer system, called Colorado DRIVES, that will allow for faster processing, better integration between counties and additional online features.

Some of the new services that will be available online starting on Aug. 6 include out-of-state emissions extensions, emissions waiver applications, personalized license plate requests and change of address requests.
