AURORA, Colo. -- Denver International Airport has filed a lawsuit against the City of Aurora.

The lawsuit is part of an effort to stop the single-family housing development approved by the city council. In a statement released Friday by the airport, officials state the homes will be less than a mile from a future runway. They wrote they met with the city and the developer a dozen times but failed to reach an agreement.

In the lawsuit, Denver International Airport calls out the City of Aurora for flip-flopping on airport noise. It points out that while the city approved homes half-a-mile from DIA, it’s also involved in a 2018 lawsuit against the airport for noise at locations more than four miles away.

Denver7 reached out to the City of Aurora for comment. A spokesperson responded, stating that they have not reviewed the complaint. Back in December, Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman raised concerns about airport noise and how it could impact the quality of life outside.

DIA warns the development near the runway will “harm” residents and the airport.
