DENVER — Starting Friday, Denver International Airport will transform its open-air plaza into a pop-up park as part of its Events at DEN series.

The park will feature native Colorado flora and 9,000 square feet of turf, plus lawn games, lunchtime fitness classes and lounge seating. Students in the Colorado State University’s Landscape Design & Contracting Program curated potted gardens that include trees and plants native to the state’s plains, which gives passengers the chance to experience local flora without leaving the airport.

This summer, DIA will host a handful of events in the park, including patriotic music Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Colorado musician Eric Lane on Aug. 1 from noon to 2 p.m., and a dog agility course on Aug. 31 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Click here for a complete list of events.

The park is otherwise open every day as long as weather permits from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. until Sept. 3. Passengers and community members are welcome to enjoy the free park activities and share their experience on social media with the hashtag #DENEvents.

The 82,000-square-foot open-air plaza is located before security at the south end of the Jeppesen Terminal, connecting the terminal to the Westin Denver International Airport and Transit Center.
