PARKER, Colo. -- Several prairie dog advocates quietly stood on the corner of Hess Road and Parker Road Tuesday, hoping the messages on their signs were loud and clear.

Deanna Meyer with Prairie Protraction Colorado was among the protestors in Parker. She says a developer has been excavating the land without removing the prairie dogs or putting them to sleep first, which she says is unusual.

“Most developers would at least try to remove the prairie dogs from the land prior to commencing. This is a rare thing,” said Meyer.

Denver7 tried to speak to someone at the development, but no one responded to our request.

The City of Parker tells Denver7 there are no regulations or rules mandating developers on how to handle prairie dogs.
