Jefferson County sheriff's investigators say the discovery of human remains in a burning car on Sunday was a homicide.
The burning car was found down a steep embankment in the 9500 block of Cougar Road in Deer Creek Canyon.
Deputies said they received numerous calls Sunday at 11:40 a.m. about the burning car.
"Once the fire was extinguished, the remains of an adult male were located inside," the sheriff's office said. "Based on new evidence and information, this case is being investigated as a homicide."
The victim's name, age, and identity have not been released.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office is urging any witnesses to the car fire, or anyone who observed any suspicious activity in the area of Cougar Road, to call the JeffCo Sheriff’s Office tip line at 303-271-5612, or call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720-913-STOP (7867).
