DENVER – The snow was clearing out of Denver by Thursday afternoon. And if you're a fan of spring, hopefully it won't be back until October or later.
Then again, there was 1947.
While an early-May snow might not seem exactly pleasant, we were still more than a month away from Denver's latest snowfall on record: A trace amount on June 12, 1947.
In fact, in the last 10 years, we've seen later snowfalls than Thursday four times: May 10, 2015; May 12, 2014; May 11, 2011; and May 12, 2010, according to the National Weather Service. The last June snow was a trace amount in 1974. Denver also saw June snow in 1951, 1937, 1919 and 1917.
Yes, our latest round of snow is later than normal – April 27 is the average date for the final snowfall of the season – but it could be worse.
Now for some good news: After a chilly (but dry) day in the 50s on Friday, we'll see sunny weather in the 60s on Saturday and a high of 70 on Sunday.
