DENVER – Denver Water crews had their hands full Thursday morning with four separate water main breaks, two of which were affecting traffic on busy roads.
Several lanes of Sheridan Boulevard as shut down after a main broke near the intersection with 17th Avenue. Crews said one lane of traffic was open in each direction between 17th and 20th. The water main break left three residential customers without water, Denver Water said.
Another water main break at Federal Boulevard and 41st Avenue shut down the northbound lanes between 41st and 42nd. Two residential buildings and two commercial buildings were without water due to that break.
Two other breaks weren’t affecting traffic during the morning commute – one was in the 2300 block of Osceola Street and the other was in the 3900 block of West Byron Place. About a dozen customers were without power between the two.
Denver Water said repairs on the water mains will last throughout the day.
The utility said the breaks don’t appear to be related. Water main breaks typically are caused by fluctuations in the weather or weak sections of pipe failing, Denver Water said. It wasn’t immediately clear what caused Thursday’s breaks.
