DENVER – A veteran who lives here in Denver received a Purple Heart at the Denver VA Medical Center more than 70 years after the brave act that earned him that award.

Daniel Sayad was told during last week's ceremony he will probably be the last Purple Heart recipient from World War II.

"You know, I was so humbled so proud, and I was really up tight, and I just couldn't hold back. I just cracked up,” said Sayad.

Sayad was hurt in Germany by a sniper back in 1944, but somehow was never awarded his Purple Heart.
