As many as 200,000 people could pack downtown Denver for the annual New Year’s Eve fireworks show, according to officials with the Downtown Denver Partnership.
The Denver Police Department will have a strong presence on city streets according to spokesperson Doug Schepman. Officers will be in uniform and in plain clothes.
"There will be a presence of officers in both plain clothes as well as uniformed. Definitely an increased presence of uniformed officers downtown," said Schepman.
A spokeswoman with the Colorado Department of Homeland Security tells Denver7 there are so specific threats against Colorado. However the office is in contact with state, local and federal partners, including the FBI.
Fireworks start at 9 p.m. on Thursday. A second show starts right at midnight to ring in 2016. In total, 15,000 fireworks will light up the sky.
