Two weeks after he was shot multiple times, Denver Police Officer Tony Lopez, Jr. met the paramedics who helped save his life.

Police tweeted a photo of the paramedics with Lopez at Denver Health on Tuesday.

Lopez was shot five times during a traffic stop near W. 37th Avenue and Federal Boulevard on Tuesday, Dec. 8. Police caught the suspect at 20th Street and Chestnut Place after a chase.

Police said Lopez was shot in an arm and both legs, and a bulletproof vest protected him from shots to his torso.

Lopez has gone through at least three major surgeries.

He took his first steps through the halls of Denver Health one week after the shooting.

Doctors say his recovery will be slow, but they have spoken optimistically about his recovery.

His sister has said that Lopez already asked repeatedly to get back to work.
