DENVER - Officer John Adsit return to limited duties on what he described as a “beautiful Colorado morning.”
The Denver Police Department welcomed back the 9-year veteran of the force Wednesday after nearly two years.
“I’m excited to be back to work,” Adsit told the media waiting for him outside Denver Police headquarters. “It’s kind of a dream come true for me and my family.”
Officer Adsit was hit and dragged by a car as he and other officers were monitoring a student protest in early December 2014. He was hospitalized for several months and needed more than a dozen surgeries.
Wednesday morning was a new beginning for the officer. He said he felt a little nervous. “It reminds me of the first day of the academy."
He thanked the community for their outpouring of support and his family and fellow officers that stood by him during his recovery.
He still has limited movement in his left arm because of damage to his radial nerve. The driver suffered a seizure and was sentenced to six years of probation for vehicular assault and not disclosing his history of seizures when getting a driver's license.
