DENVER – A Denver Police officer died while boating at a Nebraska lake, the department announced on Facebook Monday evening.
Officer Joseph Teeter was boating with his longtime girlfriend Sunday on Lake McConaughy when he passed away, the Facebook post read.
While details surrounding his death have yet to be confirmed, a Nebraska Game and Parks Commission press release states the body of a Colorado man was recovered from the same lake Sunday.
A preliminary investigation determined the man, who was not wearing a life jacket, voluntarily departed a boat for a swim and was unable to return, the release read. Neither alcohol nor foul play is suspected.
Teeter was with the department for 11 years, most recently at District 6. He leaves behind two daughters.
“Joseph was a great addition to our department, an asset to our community and he will be sorely missed. Godspeed, friend…,” the department's post read.
