A Denver Police officer was assaulted by a man at Commons Park in Lower Downtown Wednesday.
Police said when the officer approached the man at the park near 15th and Little Raven streets, the man hit the officer in the face.
The officer has "superficial wounds" on his face but was able to take the suspect into custody, officials said.
The officer called for backup just before he was assaulted, which prompted a large response from police, according to DPD spokesperson Doug Schepman.
