Denver police ID suspect accused of running red light, fatally striking pedestrian Friday evening

DENVER — The man accused of running a red light and killing a pedestrian legally crossing the street Friday night in Denver has been identified.

Denver police said they arrested Jerek Fabjancic, 29, on Saturday morning. Around 8:30 p.m. the prior day, he had been driving southbound on Blake Street when he ran a red light at 15th Street, police said. The pedestrian had been walking on a crosswalk when they were hit.

Fabjancic fled the scene, police said.

The pedestrian, who has not been identified, was taken to Denver Health Medical Center and died 12 hours later.

A Medina Alert was issued for the red Toyota truck Fabjancic had been driving. The alert was canceled Saturday morning after police tweeted that both the vehicle and suspect had been found in Lakewood. Fabjancic was taken into custody around 9:45 a.m. in Golden after he was detained by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Fabjancic is being held for investigation of vehicular homicide.

He had been arrested in 2014 by police in Pueblo and pleaded guilty to driving while impaired - careless driving. He had the DUI dismissed and got 18 months of probation.
