Denver Police honored two paramedics for helping to save Officer Tony Lopez Jr.

Dustin Morgan and Courtney Strong used a tourniquet technique to save Lopez, and his leg, after he was shot during a traffic stop.

Denver Police Chief Robert White recognized the two Denver Health paramedics at a ceremony on Wedensday.

"It's like responding to a call for your family," Morgan said, "but you do your job."

Lopez's father, a DPD commander, said that he can't thank the paramedics enough for what they did.

Sister says Tony Lopez is strongest person she knows

"I knew that if they got him to the hospital then he was going to be okay, and thank God for all the help," Tony Lopez Sr. said, "but especially the paramedics. They gave him a chance to get to the hospital so the medical staff could do their work."

Officer Lopez is set to become a sergeant next month.

He remains in the hospital now but hopes to walk at that ceremony.
