DENVER — Officer Rachel Eid was awarded the Medal of Honor during a luncheon Thursday.

The Denver Police officer was honored for her brave actions during a call in 2016.

Eid was among other Denver officers responding to a burglary in progress call on February 22, 2016.

One suspect was immediately taken into custody, but the second suspect fled. As officers gave chase, Officer Eid confronted the suspect who began firing at her.

She returned fire and then realized she had been shot in the left leg. She was transported to Denver Health with serious injuries.

She eventually recovered and is now a detective with the Denver Police Department.

Eid is the first Denver female officer in 25 years to be awarded the Medal of Honor. She also received a Purple Heart during Thursday’s event.
