DENVER – Denver Justice High School was put on lockout after school officials confiscated a handgun from a male student. The lockout was lifted around 3 p.m.
Police are currently looking for the student, who left school grounds Monday afternoon. The school is located at 300 East 9th Avenue in Denver.
The incident began after a routine locker check turned up bullets earlier in the day. The bullets were found in a locker belonging to the student, who was immediately called into the principal's office after the discovery, DPS Spokesperson Will Jones said.
Once in the office, school officials searched the student and found a handgun in his possession, Jones said. The school seized the gun and contacted Denver Police. But the male student, without permission, left the building before law enforcement arrived.
Denver police began searching for the student while officials placed the school on lockout status, which was later lifted. The student's whereabouts are still unknown.
