DENVER (AP) — Denver transportation officials say they have been given another three months to solve technology problems at some railroad crossings.
Regional Transportation District spokesman Nate Currey tells The Denver Post that the Federal Railroad Administration on Wednesday gave the organization a waiver allowing the University of Colorado A Line to keep running until April 30.
Technology problems have plagued the route's at-grade crossing safety gates, causing service delays. The train runs between Denver Union Station and Denver International Airport.
Currey says a glitch in the safety gate software causes them to close seven seconds before a train arrives and open five seconds after it leaves. He says the system can't take into account potential delays or early arrivals.
Currently, RTD employees work as flaggers to ensure safety at the crossings.
