DENVER – The City of Denver recently announced it has dissolved a longstanding commission formed to address the needs of the homeless community.

The Denver homelessness commission is no more, but the city says it will reform the group’s mission to better serve the city’s changing homeless population.

The reimagined commission will be smaller and include members of the homeless community, which the former group apparently lacked since forming in 2003.

Under the proposal, the new commission will make recommendations directly to the Mayor’s Office of HOPE regarding services and programs for those experiencing homelessness.

The commission will work alongside the Mayor’s Housing Advisory Committee and other city commissions whose work also impacts those experiencing homelessness.

The new commission should reconvene in the next six months.
