DENVER — After months of gathering community input, Denver City Council will vote on adopting the Loretto Heights Small Area Plan, which calls for the site of the historic Loretto Heights Campus to be turned into a mixed-use development with residential and commercial space.
The campus dates back to 1891 when the Sisters of Loretto founded a Catholic school, and later a college, just west of Federal Boulevard north of Highway 285. The developer, Westside Investment Partners, plans to preserve the history of the campus. The original bell tower will remain intact, along with a cemetery where 62 nuns are buried.
One focus of the plan includes creating affordable housing. Westside Investment partners plans to renovate an old dormitory building and create around 60 units of affordable housing.
The plan also calls for inclusive job opportunities and amenities that will benefit the existing residents of Loretto Heights.
