DENVER – Denver City Council President Albus Brooks is once again fighting a battle against cancer.

Brooks was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer called chondrosarcoma in 2016, after he noticed some stiffness after running the Bolder Boulder race. He had the tumor removed in July of that year and has been cancer-free since.

On Tuesday, Brooks posted on Twitter than a recent checkup found a new tumor.

While Brooks’ previous tumor had been about the size of a cantaloupe, the new mass is much smaller, about the size of a grape, Brooks said.

Brooks said he will undergo surgery to remove the tumor in the first week of May.
