DENVER — A suspect was arrested after a hit-and-run killed a pedestrian on 16th Street in downtown Denver early Sunday.

The crash, which occurred at 2:16 a.m., took place at the intersection of 16th and Market, as reported by the Denver Police Department.

The victim, not yet identified, died at the scene.

Footage shared with Denver7 shows a man fleeing from a red pickup truck as bystanders react to the crash's aftermath.

Police later announced an arrest in the case.

Located just blocks away from the crash scene—on the 1700 block of Wazee Street—the suspect, 27-year-old Milton McBride, was apprehended by police.

During a search leading to his arrest, a Ziplock bag containing a white powdery substance suspected to be cocaine was found in the defendant's left side pants pocket, according to a probable cause statement.

A blood draw was later taken from the suspect at Denver Health Medical Center.

According to the probable cause statement, McBride was seen on surveillance video driving through the gate arm of a parking garage on 15th Street before he allegedly struck a vehicle, lost control, and struck an electronic directory that fell on the victim.

McBride is being held for investigation of vehicular homicide.

The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner will release the victim’s identity once its investigation is complete.
