DENVER -- A judge has declined to extend voting hours in Colorado. Polls closed as scheduled at 7 p.m. on Election Day. Voters in line at that time were allowed to remain in line to vote.
Democratic Party officials had asked the court to keep the state's voting centers open for an additional two hours after systems statewide went down for 29 minutes earlier in the day.
Secretary of State Wayne Williams opposed the extension, arguing the outage did not stop anyone from voting in an all mail-in election. Democrats argued that many voters were forced to leave voting locations because of the wait.
More than a 100 people were stuck in lines at some Voting Centers in the metro Denver area Tuesday afternoon. Provisional ballots were handed out to those in line at the time of the system outage. However, the Colorado Secretary of State's Office said less than 20 of those ballots were filled out.
A hearing was held in Denver District Court.
