DENVER -- If you're celebrating Valentine's Day with date night tonight, you might consider Union Station.

All of the restaurants in Union Station and the vast majority of merchants are honoring fallen RTD officer Scott Von Lanken by donating 10 percent of proceeds to his memorial fund.

The owners of Mercantile Dining & Provision came up with the idea; it quickly blossomed into what's now being called, "A day of love."

"Everybody was just ecstatic about it,” said Dan Skvarca, the owner of Mercantile. “Especially in a time now where we really need some more good. Everybody just recognized this as a really worthy cause and wanted to be a part of it."

"I've been meaning to try this restaurant for a quite a while,” said diner Mike Brown. “So when we heard about the cause, we thought it was as good a day as any to try it and we’re happy that we did."

By mid-day Tuesday, merchants were estimating they would raise about $40,000 for the memorial fund.
