DENVER – Good morning, everyone! Here’s what you need to know today on Thursday, September 14.
1. Trump denies DACA deal
The president took to Twitter this morning to deny claims by Democratic leaders Sen. Chuck Schumer and Rep. Nancy Pelosi that they had "agreed to enshrine the protections of (the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program) into law quickly, and to work out a package of border security, excluding the wall, that's acceptable to both sides."
2. Arvada firefighter memorial
A memorial service will be held today for fallen firefighter Jim Schaefer, who died Sept. 10 after fighting pancreatic cancer. The service will take place at Faith Bible Chapel, 6250 Wright St. in Arvada at 10 a.m., followed by a procession.
3. Denver's mayor heads to London
Mayor Michael Hancock and other local officials are heading to London to talk economic development, tourism and international air travel. They'll return to Denver on Norwegian's first-ever London-Denver flight on Sept. 16.
4. Expect delays on I-70 in the mountains
CDOT crews will be doing rock scaling work on I-70 near Idaho Springs to remove potential hazards. Expect delays between 9 a.m and 5 p.m. through Friday.
5. Hot weather coming to an end
We're starting to cool down as the weekend approaches. Expect scattered showers and thunderstorms today and Friday, with temperatures dipping into the 70s by Saturday and Sunday.
