BOULDER, Colo. (AP) — The Boulder County district attorney's office is referring a fatal officer-involved shooting case to a grand jury.

The Daily Camera reports office spokeswoman Shannon Carbone said Wednesday that the case surrounding the death of 34-year-old Jesus Ramos will now be presented to a grand jury, a process that will likely take several weeks.

Ramos died on Dec. 31, after he was shot outside of a Longmont apartment complex by Longmont Master Police Officer Mike Kimbley.

Forensic pathologist Daniel Lingamfelter ruled that Ramos was hit with one bullet that entered his lower left back. Lingamfelter classified the death as a homicide.

The incident was investigated by Boulder County law enforcement investigators before being referred to the district attorney's office for review.

Kimbley has been on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
