BOULDER, Colo. -- One school in Colorado made the college football power rankings consistently, and its coach may have been a huge reason as to why. CU Buffaloes Head Coach Mike MacIntyre was named the Associated Press college football Coach of the Year for those efforts.
MacIntyre and his Buffaloes were able to etch into record a 10-3 season, and the school's first bowl game -- the Alamo Bowl -- since 2007.
The Buffaloes season captured the state's attention, especially when the team climbed from No. 25 on the power ranking up to No. 10.
MacIntyre's Buffaloes were contenders for the Rose Bowl, but a defeat to No. 4 Washington in the Pac-12 conference final turned the team to the Alamo Bowl, where they will face Oklahoma State.
According to the Associated Press, MacIntyre received 109 points and 25 first-place votes from the AP college football panel, with Penn State's James Franklin coming in second with 98 points and 16 first-place points.
The AP reports MacIntyre is the first Colorado coach to win the award since its start in 1998.
