ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. – The Colorado State Patrol has identified the man who was struck and killed by an Adams County Sheriff’s deputy Thursday evening.

Zachary Castillo, 22, was reportedly jaywalking on Federal Blvd. near W. 56th Ave. around 7:45 p.m. when a deputy driving southbound on Federal collided with the man, who was crossing the middle of the roadway from west to east, according to CSP spokesman Blake White.

Castillo was struck by the front of the patrol car and came to rest in the roadway. Officials tried to resuscitate the man, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.

CSP officials also said that while the patrol car’s emergency lights and siren were not on at the time of the crash, the car’s headlights were. Speeding is not being considered as a factor in the crash, they said.

The deputy involved in the fatal crash suffered no injuries.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
