GOLDEN, Colo. – Crews may have made progress overnight on a fire burning near Coors Brewing in Golden, but shifting winds Friday has firefighters concerned.
The 66-acre South Table Mountain Fire remains zero percent contained. Aerial video from Airtracker7 early Friday morning showed a smoldering burn scar. The fire was estimated at 35 acres earlier Friday morning.
Crews are challenged by steep terrain, heavy brush, rattlesnakes, and water dumps from helicopters impacting loose rocks.
The fire broke out on South Table Mountain Thursday afternoon. Although the blaze was close to the Coors Brewing plant, no structures were actually threatened. However, if winds increase some nearby homes could be evacuated.
Officials said a firefighter was injured while working the fire and was transported to the hospital.
Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
The South Table Mountain Fire was just one of at least two others that kept firefighters busy Thursday. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office issued evacuation notices for the Cold Spring Fire near Genesee, which was about two to three acres in size. That fire was 100 percent contained within hours.
A third fire burning near 32nd and McIntyre prompted officials to close Castle Rock Road, which will remain closed through the day Friday.
Fire danger is high around the state due to low humidity and high winds.
