Crash shuts down Pecos Street at 84th Avenue in Federal Heights

FEDERAL HEIGHTS, Colo. Police were investigating an accident which closed down Pecos Street north of west 84th Avenue.

Five people were injured in the crash which was reported around 5:30 p.m.

A white Acura was traveling eastbound on west 84th Avenue at a high rate of speed, according to a police dispatcher with the Federal Heights Police Department. 

According to the preliminary investigation, it appears the Acura lost control as it turned north onto Pecos Street. It crossed into oncoming traffic and crashed head on into a SUV. 

A third SUV than crashed into the two vehicles.

The driver and passenger of the Acura were thrown from their vehicle. They were rushed to the hospital with critical, life-threatening injuries.

The drivers and a passenger in the other vehicles were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

Video from Airtracker7 showed the engine of the Acura was torn loose in the collision.

Excessive speed and alcohol were suspected of playing a role in the crash. investigators said. 

Both directions of Pecos remained closed at 10 p.m.
