PUEBLO, Colo. — Rangers at Lake Pueblo State Park recovered a person’s body around dawn on Tuesday after an all-night search.

A search and rescue operation began around 3:25 p.m. on Monday after three witnesses called 911 to report they had spotted an empty boat in No Name Cove, which is along the north shore of the lake. All three callers said they had seen an older man fishing in it about 20 minutes earlier.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife began searching the water and surrounding land, but were interrupted by severe weather until 7 p.m. They resumed the search then and continued throughout the evening.

CPW rangers searched through 40 feet of water using sonar equipment and shortly before 5 a.m. Tuesday, recovered the body using a Remote Operated Vehicle. The Pueblo County Coroner was called to the scene to identify the person and determine the cause of death.

Monique Mullis, manager of Lake Pueblo State Park, said they appreciate the rangers who were determined all night to make a rescue or recovery.

“We offer our condolences to the family of this person,” she said.
