The Park County sheriff’s deputy who was killed in a shootout earlier this year during an attempted eviction in Bailey died of a single, high-caliber gunshot wound to his chest, autopsy reports released Saturday show.
The man who fired that shot and was later killed by other deputies,58-year-old Martin Wirth, was struck by 11 bullets, according to county Coroner David Kintz. Wirth had wounds — all of them of a large caliber as well — to both lungs, his neck and head.
The autopsy report says Wirth had 11 entrance wounds “involving the full spectrum of the back with a predominance of the mid-back.”
The .45-caliber round that ended Cpl. Nate Carrigan’s life passed through his lungs and lacerated the ventricles of his heart, his autopsy report shows.
