Coroner identifies Texas teen who died after skiing into tree at Winter Park Resort

GRAND COUNTY, Colo. – A teenage girl who died after skiing into a tree Wednesday has been identified as a 17-year-old from Texas.

The Grand County coroner said Alicyn Mitcham, 17, was from Colmesneil, Texas.

Mitcham struck a tree on Forget-Me-Not, an intermediate run at Winter Park Resort, at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday.

She was taken to Denver Health East Grand ER at the base of the resort, where she was pronounced dead.

Mitcham was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, the coroner said.

An autopsy to determine the precise cause of death was scheduled for Thursday.

Mitcham’s death is the fourth skiing death in Colorado this season.
