STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. — A coroner confirmed that the body found along the bank of Soda Creek this week was Matthew Shelters.

The Routt County Coroner identified the individual as Shelters, said Steamboat Springs Police Department Chief Cory Christensen.

On Thursday, authorities in Steamboat Springs said they believed they had found Shelters’s body. The Steamboat Pilot and Today reported that Routt County Commissioner Cari Hermacinski said she discovered the body while walking along the creek on Wednesday.

Family members said Shelters, 38, was last seen leaving a Steamboat Springs restaurant shortly after midnight on April 24, according to the Associated Press. Police said at the time that there was no evidence to indicate that a crime had occurred.
