COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — Police in Commerce City are investigating a road rage incident from Thursday morning.

Around 8:35 a.m. Thursday, officers with the Commerce City Police Department responded to the area around E. 72nd Avenue and Colorado Highway 2 on a report of a road rage incident.

Officers investigated and determined that some sort of verbal disturbance between passengers in two cars had occurred near Kemp Elementary School, which is located at 6775 Oneida Street. One vehicle followed the other away from the elementary school northeast. Around E. 72nd Avenue and Colorado Highway 2, which is about a mile away from the school, an occupant in one of the cars — a white Monte Carlo — fired at least one gunshot, according to police.

Nobody was injured in the shooting, but local schools were temporarily placed on lock-out as a precaution.

The investigation is ongoing.
