COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – A Commerce City police officer was injured while directing traffic before a Colorado Rapids game Thursday.

The female officer was directing traffic outside Dick’s Sporting Goods Park before the Colorado Rapids vs. New England Revolution Soccer Match at around 6 p.m. when a motorist who “was not paying attention to directions” struck the officer in the side and she was knocked to the ground, according to Cmdr. Charlie Schoepflin.

The female officer was taken to a hospital as a precaution with minor injuries, Schoepflin said.

Police do not believe the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Schoepflin said the car was moving slowly in traffic. The incident is still under investigation.
