COMMERCE CITY, Colo. – The condition of a 3-year-old child wounded in an accidental shooting in Commerce City Wednesday is improving.

Although specifics related to the child's injuries have not been disclosed, Commerce City Police told Denver7 Thursday that the child is doing “much better.” The toddler is being treated at Children’s Hospital in Aurora.

The shooting was reported at around 3:30 p.m. in the area of Nucla Street and East 96th Avenue, about a block away from the Rocky Mountain Arsenal Wildlife Refuge.

Police said the child received medical assistance at the scene before he was taken to Children's Hospital for treatment.

Police have yet to release details surrounding the shooting, including the child’s identity. A Denver7 crew on scene Wednesday saw what appeared to be a bullet hole in the back sliding door of the home where the shooting occurred.

Investigators are trying to determine how many adults were in the home at the time. Charges could be filed in the case once the investigation is complete.

Police say they are putting together a case file to send to the district attorney’s office.
