DENVER – Colorado State Patrol is warning of another scam targeting businesses, and this time the suspects are claiming to be patrolmen.
CSP says the scam works like this: a business gets a call from someone claiming to be a CSP representative, who tells them they will stop by to pick up a check authorized by the business owner.
The scammer typically knows the person’s name they are trying to scam, but CSP says they will never call and request money from anyone.
It advises people to ask for the office the caller is from and to take their number and report it.
