COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Firefighters from Colorado Springs hiked the Manitou Incline Friday morning as a tribute to the hundreds of first-responders who lost their lives on 9/11.
Each carrying 60 pounds of gear, firefighters ascended 2,00 feet up the trail until they reached the top, according to Denver7 partner KRDO.
"I know I’m going to hit that false summit and just instantly get drained, but these guys are going to push me through, and we are going to get it," a firefighter told KRDO.
The Colorado Springs crew hike the trail every year on September 11, a tradition going back to 2015. However, they moved the memorial climb up this year since the trail will be closing next week for several months for repairs.
They say all firefighters stand in solidarity and are part of a brotherhood no matter where they're saving lives.
