COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — A firefighter with the Colorado Springs Fire Department has been charged with sexual exploitation of a child.

The Colorado Springs Police Department’s Internet Crimes Against Children Unit is actively investigating a 59-year-old employee with the Colorado Springs Fire Department.

On Wednesday, Robert Patrick Stambaugh was arrested and charged with sexual exploitation of a child. He was booked into the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center with no bond.

Stambaugh has been an employee with the fire department since 1986 and is currently assigned as a firefighter and paramedic.

Fire Captain Brian Vaughan said Stambaugh is not scheduled to return to work until Sunday, and will be placed on administrative leave with pay. After the fire department reviews the charging documents and police report, they will have the option of placing him on leave without pay, Vaughan said in a press release.

"The CSFD will fully cooperate with the Colorado Springs Police Department as they continue to investigate this matter," the release reads.

The police department said no additional information will be released at this time since the investigation is active.
