DENVER – Dozens of firefighters are heading to Southern California to help get an upper hand on wildfires burning out of control there.

A spokesman for the Rocky Mountain Area Coordination Center said the center received orders to send up to 25 fire engines from the Rocky Mountain region, which consists of Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska, South Dakota and Kansas. The majority of those engines will come from Colorado and will include a mix of federal and local agencies, Scott Swendsen said.

One of those engines will be coming from West Metro Fire in the Denver area, which is also sending four firefighters. The crew was scheduled to depart for California Wednesday morning.

Swendsen said the RMACC dispatch center was in the process of fulfilling the rest of the engine orders.
