COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) -- Ranchers in far southeast Colorado are taking stock after more than 300 head of cattle were reported dead after a weekend snowstorm.
From Friday to Saturday, parts of Baca County saw anywhere from 8 to 10 inches of snow, and plow crews could not do their job Sunday because of zero visibility.
KKTV in Colorado Springs reports eight livestock producers tallied more than 300 dead cattle. One producer reported losing 100 head of cattle.
By Wednesday, all residents were able to access the main roads in the county, and about 90 percent of the gravel roads were passable with four-wheel drive vehicles.
