PUEBLO, Colo. (AP) — A Colorado animal shelter has resumed pet adoptions after changes in management.

The Pueblo Chieftain reported Monday that Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region has taken over management of a Pueblo shelter and started limited operations this month to train staff and relaunch the adoption process.

Officials say a three-year contract was negotiated with Pikes Peak in June to manage full operations.

The Community Animal Services of Pueblo says after former operator PAWS for Life was ousted in March, the shelter was under a short-term contract with the city and county to continue limited services excluding adoptions.

Officials say the PAWS contract was terminated after mismanagement complaints and an investigation by the Colorado Department of Agriculture.

Officials say an open house and adoption event is set for Aug. 17.
