LOUISVILLE, Colo. — For most couples, having a baby is one of the happiest moments of their lives. However, underneath the excitement and anticipation can lie anxiety and depression.

Pregnancy-related or postpartum depression (PPD) and anxiety are the long term versions of the feelings known as the "baby blues." Postpartum Support International (PSI) said the condition impacts one in seven women, making it the most common complication of pregnancy. The organization shared women are most frequently affected, but it can also impact fathers, partners and close family members.

Louisville couple Will and Kristina Newman are sharing their experience with Denver7 in hopes of helping other families get the help they need. Will and Kristina have a 3 1/2-year-old daughter, but experienced the side effects of depression and anxiety during and after Kristina's pregnancy.
